Work has begun on the AMU Fiber to the Home (FTTH) project. CDB Utility Contractors of Davenport, Iowa, started work in the southern part of Algona during the week of October 13th. AMU customers might see workers digging in their yards, and there could be minor communications outages as the project advances. AMU appreciates its customers’ support during this time. The project is expected to be finished in July 2027.
Over the years, AMU has installed fiber service in parts of its service area, including downtown Algona. The project will deliver fiber to the remaining customers using the hybrid coax cable service.
AMU Communications Utility Supervisor, Alex Friedrich, said, “Fiber is more reliable and provides faster internet speeds and higher bandwidths with reduced latency (lag time).” Fiber makes it easier for AMU Internet customers to use internet-driven technology in their homes and businesses.
