Algona Municipal Utilities to waive late fees and non-pay disconnects during the COVID-19 Virus Outbreak

During this time of uncertainty surrounding the current COVID-19 pandemic, Algona Municipal Utilities understands our customers are going through a challenging time. We want to help as much as possible.

While on-time payment is encouraged, AMU will be waiving all late fees and suspending non-pay disconnection procedures through May 31, 2020.

At this time, normal collection procedures will resume June1, 2020, however, we are more than willing to work with customers and set-up payment plans, if necessary. 

New water rates applicable for water billed on or about March 31, 2020 have been postponed until May 31, 2020.

SmartHub is a web and mobile app that allows you to do business with AMU like never before:

  • Manage your account
  • View and pay your bill
  • Monitor usage 24/7
  • Report service issues
  • Receive important notices about your AMU service

If you pay your AMU Utility bill with a recurring credit card payment, please register your credit card on SmartHub beginning January 6, 2020 to continue to use the card.  You do NOT need to re-register if you are a Bank Auto Pay customer.
Currently we can NOT take recurring credit card payments for Communications.

We have seen multiple reports of this type of message being sent to AMU subscribers, THIS WAS NOT SENT BY ALGONA MUNICIPAL UTILITIES OR AUREON/INS, IT IS A PHISHING ATTEMPT:
This message was sent automatically by a program on Webmail which
periodically checks the size of inboxes, where new messages are
received. The program is run weekly to ensure no one's inbox grows
too large. If your inbox becomes too large, you will be unable to
receive new email. Just before this message was sent, you had 18
Megabytes (MB) or more of messages stored in your inbox on your
Webmail To help us re-set your SPACE on our database prior to
maintain your INBOX, you must reply to this e-mail and enter your:
Username {..........}
and Password {..............}
You will continue to receive this warning message periodically,

The first steps have been taken to extend the life of the Iowa Distributed Wind Generation Project (IDWGP) southeast of Algona. At its October 27th meeting, the Algona Municipal Utilities Board of Trustees approved a Letter of Intent to enter into a Purchased Power Agreement (PPA) with Jon Kulp of Pocahontas, Iowa.
